This Week In Chicago Sports

Another week has come and gone in Chicago sports. Here's a recap in case you were out of town, including every major Chicago sports teams.

The Blackhawks have kept things quiet, as we start to get used to the idea that they won't be repeating as champions. However, a few players got some cuts in a Wrigley Field.

The Bulls have supposedly made an offer to the Timberwolves for Kevin Love as well. Personally, I don't think this is actually anything worth even taking a second look at, as I don't see the Bulls winding up with Love. However, it would be nice to see him with Rose next season. It will probably cost the Bulls, at very least, both first round picks this year, Jimmy Butler, and Carlos Boozer's expiring contract (that would likely not be all too). That's quite a lot to give up right there. Either way though, it's tough to say if it's worth it, because Kevin Love has never played on a good team. None of us know how well he'll score on the floor with Rose or how well he'll rebound playing next to Noah. We do know that he's still a very good player, so I really do hope to see him wind up with the Bulls. He would also spread the floor real well for Rose and unclog the paint a bit.

In baseball news, the Cubs just ended a 5 game winning streak finishing 5-1 this week while the White Sox went 2-4, getting swept over the weekend by the Angels. The bigger news for both was the draft this week. The strategy for the White Sox was mostly to draft the likely overslot Carlos Rodon early (the obvious pick), and then pick a lot of underslot college seniors and other guys who the White Sox will be able to sign. For the Cubs it was almost the exact opposite. With all of the top arms gone by the time they picked, they went for the top college bat in Kyle Schwarber, who will likely also be someone they can go underslot on, since he was predicted to go about 6-10 picks later, this, along with going for value in the second round as well (Stinnett is a recent convert to pitcher, but does have a high upside arm, and he's a college senior). This allowed the Cubs to draft a lot of guys who will be tougher to sign, but since the Cubs will have the extra money to spend, they'll have a good chance to get those guys signed, so they got a ton of high upside guys drafted. Both teams look like they did well, but like I said yesterday, don't expect to see more than 4 or 5 of these guys for either team actually make it to the bigs.

Now, for the Bears, they signed Jimmy Clausen as another competitor for the backup QB spot, which has got some fans excited, but let's be honest, he probably won't be on the final roster, and if he is, the Bears are likely in a lot of trouble. I'm guessing that he finished as the 4th best QB once it's time to make cuts. Anyway, some people are higher on him than I am, but he was terrible during his time in Carolina, and Notre Dame hasn't produced an even decent quarterback since Joe Montana. That's really it for the Bears, this point of the offseason, after OTAs and before training camp, is usually a very dull time.
