Predictions for the Bears Against the Vikings

Sunday, September 15, 2013, the Chicago Bears will face off against the Minnesota Vikings in a divisional match-up. The Bears are currently 1-0 after defeating the Bengals in week 1. The Vikings are 0-1 after being defeated by the Detroit Lions in week 1.

So what do I see going down? Well, it's impossible for anyone, no matter how smart (which I am not saying I am) to pick games perfectly. Upsets happen all the time, often without any good reason for them to happen. There's a reason they suit up and play every day.

That being said, I can't see the Bears losing this one. Like I just said, they still suit up and play for a reason, and while the Lions had a terrible record last season, they're still better than that 4-12 record they had. The Vikings are a team without any reasonable passing game though. They do have Greg Jennings out there to catch the ball, but outside of that their only serious offensive weapon is reigning MVP Adrian Peterson. I guess Kyle Rudolph, to a much lesser extent, is someone that teams will have to pay attention to as well.

Peterson is really what I expect to see the Bears zero in on. I think they will challenge Christian Ponder early to beat them with his arm. They'll still have to cover the receivers, and probably double up on Jennings, but the focus can still be more on the run though. Even if Peterson is able to put up 100+ yards, if they make sure that the Vikings can't win with the run alone, which I think they will, the Bears will have a good day.

Kevin Williams, who still has a suspension to serve, will be back for this game. He's getting up there, but is still effective. Don't expect Forte to be able to run all over them like he would have been able to if Williams wasn't playing, but he should still have a nice game on the ground. I expect to see the Bears work on establishing the run more in this game. Not having to go against that Bengals front 7 should help them to get their running backs more than 3 yards per carry this week I'm not saying 100+ yards, but he will have a much better week.

With the passing game I expect to see something similar to last week. Maybe more passes towards Jeffery or either Bennett, but I still think Marshall will get his 5+ catches and 75+ yards. I see Cutler finishing with 2-3 touchdowns, and I'm going to say no interceptions. I will say that the Vikings secondary did do very well against the Lions and held Calvin Johnson down very well, but at the same time, I'm not so impressed that I think this is something they can repeat every week.

The most important thing is the final score. I expect to see the Bears win this one in convincing fashion, although not a blowout by any means. I think the final score will see the Bears winning 31-17.
