Chicago Bears vs. Cincinnati Bengals: In Game Thoughts

I guess you can call this a live blog type of thing, even though I don't actually know what live blogging is. I'm not up to date with all of the technical terms and whatnot, all I know is that throughout the game this is where I will post thoughts on what is going on.

12:15 CDT: Bears actually didn't look terrible that first drive. I thought that was a catch by Jeffery for a first down that the officials messed up on, the replay clearly seemed to show that. However, it looks like it worked out for the better. The defense picked up right where it left off with a Tillman interception.

So far the offensive line, sans one penalty by the veteran Slauson, has looked solid. No, they're not giving Cutler a ton of time, but they're giving him enough against a very tough defensive line. Forte is running the ball well, and as a whole the Bears are looking solid against a tough defense.

The defense looks good so far, but hasn't had much of a large sample size. Still, that's not a worry.

As this was being posted, Cutler threw a touchdown pass to Martellus Bennett on an outstanding throw.

2:40 CDT: I didn't update for a while because I just really didn't have anything positive to say. After scoring their touchdown the Bears were then outscored 21-3 by the Bengals. There was another interception by Tillman and a career long and Bears all time long 58 yard field goal by Robbie Gould. However, it wasn't until the second half that things started to get better for the Bears, even though the Bengals would still score another touchdown.

Anyway, after a Cutler interception (despite starting to look sharp before that), the Bears really started to pick things up. Both the offense and defense have started looking much better. Earlier on the Bears were doing a terrible job of finishing up their tackles. When one player is starting their tackle, the rest of the team is now making their way over to where the play is being made and making sure the play is finished.

Now, halfway through the 4th, the Bengals have the ball with the Bears up by a field goal. Let's hope for a strong finish (as Anderson gets it to 4th and 10 with a near interception).

POSTGAME: My final thoughts, this was not a pretty game. There was a lot of adjusting and other things the Bears had to do in this game in order to pull it out. However, considering a lot of the "experts" were picking the Bengals to win this game, the Bears just winning it was a great thing, and really the bottom line is if the team gets the win, that's all that matters.

The Bengals are no joke of a team. They've been strong for a couple of years now and look like they're going to continue to get better. However, they have their problems. They made a few major mistakes that burned some much needed timeouts and the penalty at the end that allowed the Bears to take the knee to end the game. Other teams won't give the Bears those same breaks, so the Bears need to make sure to have those issues ironed out going into the rest of the season.

Still, it was a great game to watch, as a whole. Cutler had himself a nice game, Marshall was strong. Martellus Bennett reminded the Bears fans what it looks like to have a tight end that can catch as well. Things are looking up, and hopefully this team is able to improve as the season goes along, as I expect.
